Case Locking

Different users belonging to the same Client can log into ClariNet LS at the same time. It is possible for multiple users to view the same Case at the same time and since the data is read-only, these users can view any information on any page, or download or generate reports without affecting each other. However, two users cannot edit information at the same time and ClariNet LS uses Case Locking to maintain a record of who is editing the Case.

The padlock symbol in the top left corner indicates whether a Case is locked or unlocked and hovering over the padlock displays a tooltip providing information as to whether any edits are pending and further lock information.

When you click the EDIT button anywhere in Case view, you acquire a Case lock.

When you save or cancel all your edits the Case Lock is released.

When another user clicks EDIT on a Case, thereby acquiring the Case lock, if you look at the same Case at the same time you are instantly notified by a red padlock at the top left of the Case page. The tooltip explains who is editing the Case and when the lock was acquired.

You can still click on the EDIT button but you will receive a warning.

Important : Do think carefully before acquiring the lock. It may be advisable to contact your colleague, ask them to save their changes (to release the lock) and then you can edit safely. The red padlock will no longer be displayed, you can edit the Case and acquire the Case Lock.

If you do decide to click ACQUIRE LOCK the other user is immediately notified and will no longer be able to save their pending changes, effectively all their changes are lost.

The red padlock appears on the other user's screen and the tooltip show information about the user who has now acquired the Case Lock.

Case Locks expire after an hour of inactivity. For example, if another user clicks EDIT on a Case but they are inactive for a few hours, or they close their web browser without logging out, you will still see the red padlock when you view the Case. However, the time and possibly the date shown may be quite old, possibly many days ago. In this scenario, when you click EDIT, ClariNet LS realizes the lock has lapsed, and you automatically get a new Case Lock (green padlock), no warning is displayed. The other user’s changes, if any, are lost (note that ClariNet LS would automatically log them out after a certain period of time anyway, also discarding their changes). Finally, as a safety net, every time you log into ClariNet LS, any of your own previous Case Locks are removed. This is useful if, for example, you click EDIT on a Case and then close your web browser without logging out or if a power cut occurs.
